Music & Math 2008-11-06
Colorado Springs Philharmonic: MUSIC AND MATH
The 2008 Colorado Springs Philharmonic Young People's Concerts will focus on the links between math and music. Music is a mathematical language, and math is a musical language. Despite the stereotype that musicians are right-brained "creative types," musicians perform far above average in math. Even non-musicians perform better at math after they've been listening to music! Students will see the four families of musical instruments at the front of the stage, learn how those instruments work and the mathematical concepts that bring them together, and experience orchestral music from a mathematical point of view. It's a whole new way to look at the music that makes our lives better and the math that runs our world.
When: Thursday, November 6, 2008; 11am (arrival time TBA)
Where: Pikes Peak Center
Who: K-12th grade students and their parents
